Durham MPP Introduces Legislation Proclaiming Physical Fitness Day on the First Friday of September
QUEEN’S PARK – Durham MPP John O’Toole today introduced legislation at Queen’s Park that would proclaim the first Friday in September as Physical Fitness Day across the Province of Ontario.
“Medical studies have consistently shown that a moderate amount of physical activity is one of the keys to a long, healthy, and productive life,” Mr. O’Toole said in the Legislature.
The Durham MPP stressed the need to bring awareness to this issue and believed that his bill was the first small step in what is a growing provincial issue.
“With child obesity rates on the rise, now, more than ever, it is important to bring awareness to the issue of physical fitness and its positive effects on personal health. Having Physical Fitness Day coincide with the start of the school term also brings awareness amongst the younger generation of the Province,” Mr. O’Toole said at Queen’s Park.

“The Government of Ontario recognizes the contribution made by coaches, volunteers, educators, parents and medical professionals in the promotion of physical fitness. These community leaders serve as role models in encouraging everyone to include a moderate amount of physical activity in their daily lives.” John R. O’Toole MPP – Durham
“Recent studies have shown that the people of Ontario are living an increasingly sedentary lifestyle and this decline in fitness may be remedied by bringing awareness, across the Province, to the necessity of physical fitness by proclaiming September 1st Physical Fitness Day.” John R. O’Toole MPP – Durham
